There is an Internet sayings goes that“英国最薄的一本书是《英国菜谱》”("The thinnest book in Britain is The British Cookbook.")
I don"t want to be stereotypic about British food, so you should use Internet to search for recipes of traditional food in your hometown.
By the way, if you go to China and have a visit in my hometown SuZhou for sometime, I suggest you’d better eat at restaurants where you can order lots of well made(made by skilled chefs)dish for lunch and dinner.
For example, 鸭血粉丝汤、盐水鸭、酱排骨、狮子头、白鱼、白虾、螺蛳、各种炒菜(My apologies. Translating these names properly is a big challenge). When you order your meal, I recommend 一荤两素一汤一碗白米饭(One meat dish and two vegetable dish and a bowl of soup and a bowl of white rice). Some restaurants provide free soup and rice refill, you’d better ask staffs for this information to make things clear.
Something else you need to be careful, personally speaking, is that going to a hotpot restaurant is not recommended. Let me share my story.
I live in SuZhou. One day lunchtime I was eating pork noodles in a small restaurant which I visited almost once a week. In this small restaurant I heard one staff complains that nowadays there is big increase in hotpot small restaurants in this city, because people eating with hotpot results in reduce of manpower cost. Once the manpower cost is reduced, small restaurants who need chefs such as this noodle small restaurants (also provide plain home-made meals)face great challenge, because compared with hotpot small restaurants, the non-hotpot small restaurants have higher cost.
It was said by the staff that if hotpot is applied, there is no need to hire chefs to deal with food ingredients and make delicious meals, due to the fact that food ingredients are sent to the customers, then the customers just need to put the ingredients into the hotpot which contains boiling soup for several minutes, then take the food out and it’s ok to eat. Besides, hotpot recipes are usually spicy not appeals to my appetite. Anyway, I’m not interested in hotpot.
